1 John 5:14-15
Meditation
Scripture.
And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His Will, He heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
1 John 5:14-15 KJV
The apostle John writes this letter to those Christians who he had been teaching for some time. He is now an old man and wants to sum up how to live like a Christian.
In these two verses of scripture John assures us through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that if we ask for anything and it is according to God's Will, that God will hear us and we will have what we asked for.
This is a great verse to meditate on as we grow in the Lord.
We must know God's Will in order to receive the petition we ask for. Begin by identifying the request then searching the scripture to see if that is God's Will.
Some key elements of God's Will that I have found are as follows;
Salvation for everyone because God says that it is his Will that all be saved
Forgiveness from God and to others
Love to flow from us to all peoples
Victory over sin in our lives
The ability to comfort and encourage others
When asking for a personal physical need you may want to ask your request, then insert, " according to Your Will and Purpose for my life, In Jesus's Name." Or something similar that speaks of you humbling yourself to God's Will and not demanding your own will in the matter.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your Holiness is Your guide to my requests. I know You are a Good God and You see all of me. There is no hiding from You. I want to always ask according to Your Will. Help me to mature into the type of Christian that John says pleases You. Amen.
