Scripture 1 Samuel 16:7b

Meditation

Scripture for today.

For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart

1 Samuel 16:7b  KJV

The beginning of verse 7 finds the lord's Prophet Samuel looking for the king of Israel that God has chosen.

Samuel sees before him Jesse's son Eliab and is sure he must be the one chosen because of his countenance and height.  The outward appearance is one of a stately and strong king.  One the people would support, and this alone would make life easier for Samuel!

But God chooses to speak to Samuel further and so His Word speaks to us today. He looks upon the heart of man, not the outward appearance.  To Him our outward appearance is like filthy rags.

He looks to the inner heart of man to see if Christ resides there and, is given the place of command and honour.

Prayer

Lord, make me more like Christ day by day.  I give to You my "self" and ask Jesus to begin a new work in me. Amen.
